Why we ask for this document
European anti-money-laundering rules require us to confirm who ultimately owns your company against the official register of beneficial owners in your country of registration. In several countries that register is not open to banks and payment institutions from abroad, so the extract has to come from you.
Every country in the European Economic Area (EEA) keeps such a register. It is separate from the commercial or trade register, and it is the only document that shows the beneficial owners (UBO) the way the authorities recorded them.
What counts as a valid extract
A register issued it. Its name, logo or reference number appears on the document.
It shows the section listing beneficial owners, with their names.
Everything on it is readable, including the company name.
What does not count
An extract from the commercial or trade register. It shows the company and its directors, not the beneficial owners.
A certificate of directors, secretary or shareholders. Shareholders can be companies; beneficial owners are always people.
A document you or your adviser prepared and signed. A declaration of ownership, even notarised, is not a register extract. Your own share register is not one either.
Your articles of association or founding deed.

What if the register in my country will not give it to me?
In a few countries the register is genuinely hard to reach for a company without a local adviser. Tell us so in the ticket, and describe what you tried. We will look at what we can confirm from the documents you have already provided and come back to you with the next step. You do not need to keep sending other documents in the hope that one of them works.
Can I send a photo or a screenshot?
Yes, as long as the register name, your company name and the list of owners are all fully visible and readable. If part of the page is cut off or blurred, save the document as a PDF from the register and send that instead.

We check the extract against the owners you listed in your application. If they differ, we will ask you to update the information or explain the difference, so it is worth checking the register entry is current before you send it.
